Gareth Delve called up to Wales rugby World Cup training camp
Gareth Delve, formerly of Bath and Gloucester but currently playing for the Melbourne Rebels, has had his chances of a World Cup place with Wales improved dramatically by a call-up to the team's training camp in Poland. Delve was originally going to miss both visits to Spala because of commitments with the Super 15 side, but having returned from Melbourne this week he was flown in. "I've got a few days to try and impress the big man [the coach Warren Gatland], so can hopefully still make the cut," said Delve, who has impressed in Australia and now seems to be favoured ahead of two other back-row candidates, Andy Powell and Jonathan Thomas. "I've missed the last couple of World Cups through injuries so this is a huge opportunity for me," added Delve, who now seems to be competing with Ryan Jones and Toby Faletau for the No8 shirt in the World Cup opener against South Africa. "I had a pretty good season in the Super 15 and I'm ready to play a big part in the squad."
