Journalist Ella Shanahan dies at 60
Hundreds attended the funeral on Sunday of Ella Shanahan, a former London editor of the Irish Times and Ireland's first female agricultural correspondent. She died on Thursday, aged 60, at her home in Co Waterford. She spent 27 years in two spells at the Irish Times and also worked for RTÉ, becoming one of the country's best-known journalists of her generation. Michael O'Halloran, a long-time friend and colleague of Ms Shanahan, told mourners she was capable of "lighting up a room in 20 seconds". Sources: Irish Times (1) (2) / Irish Independent / RTÉ
