My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding festive special watched by more than 5m

Christmas came early for Channel 4 with a festive edition of ratings juggernaut My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding watched by more than 5 million viewers. My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas, which saw the return of stalwart traveller Paddy Doherty after his brief starring role on Channel 5's Celebrity Big Brother, attracted an average audience of 5.1 million and a 20.5% share of all viewing in the 9pm slot. When Channel 4+1 is included, the total audience hit 5.8 million and a 23.4% share. It gave Channel 4 a rare ratings victory over all four of the other main channels in the 9pm slot (but only if you include Channel 4+1). The final instalment of BBC1's eight-part Ben Miller drama Death in Paradise attracted 5.3 million and a 21.4% share in the 9pm slot. ITV1 had a tougher time of it in the primetime slot with the conclusion of two-part documentary My Child's Not Perfect averaging just 1.7 million viewers, a 6.7% share. The ITV1 show was beaten by the final outing for BBC2's three-part Money, with 1.9 million viewers, a 7.7% share, but narrowly had the edge over Channel 5's CSI: Miami, which was watched by 1.6 million people in the same slot. These are overnights 2011 In a good night for Channel 4, Shane Meadows' drama sequel This is England '88 attracted an audience of 2.2 million and a 12.6% share between 10pm and 11.10pm. When Channel 4+1 is included the first instalment of the three-part series attracted an average audience of 2.5 million and a 14.5% share. Channel 4 said it was its highest rating drama launch of the year, ahead of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror . High stakes, low ratings The final part of Jeremy Kyle's eight-part ITV1 quiz High Stakes finished with 2 million viewers, an 8.3% share of the audience. It was well beaten by BBC's Masterchef: The Professionals, watched by 3.5 million people, a 14.8% share, across BBC2 and BBC HD.
