Readers recommend: new year songs

Happy new year, readers! Out with the old, and in with the new. Any resolutions? No? Here's one: using your skill and judgment, nominate your favourite songs about a new year and help us assemble a wonderful and illuminating playlist on that subject. A new year presents opportunities. It's a time for a fresh start, of renewal. Perhaps of optimism … but not necessarily. Post your suggestions in the comments below and we'll select the best of them for a playlist published next Thursday.
