Training woes make Rite Of Passage an Ascot Gold Cup doubt

Rite Of Passage is having training problems and may miss next week's Ascot Gold Cup his trainer, Dermot Weld, revealed last night. A decision as to whether the 2010 winner of the highlight of the Royal meeting will race a week on Thursday is likely later this week. Weld told racingpost.com: "We've been having little training problems with him and it isn't proving the easiest job keeping him right for the Gold Cup. We will be taking things day by day with him and a decision will be made at the weekend." Rite Of Passage has run only once since his victory last year when a promising third to the Gold Cup favourite Fame And Glory at Leopardstown last month. He was a general 5-2 shot for this year's renewal of the race.
