Various: Harbour of Songs – review

Earlier this year, artists Lone Twin launched a sea-going boat built from donated wooden objects, a feat celebrated in this collection from diverse folkies and writers. Each song tells the story of a particular donation. The Unthanks sing Nick Hornby's tale of a ruler used by a caning teacher ("Inch by inch we climbed above you"), Alasdair Roberts offers a quirky ode to a rola-bola board , and Janis Ian charms with a kids' song about a music box. Adrian McNally's touches of chamber folk complement the yearning vocals of Sarah Blasko and Raevennan Husbandes and the concept satisyingly exceeds the sum of its parts.
