Former Virgin Media executive to head Abu Dhabi Media Company

Malcolm Wall, the former Virgin Media executive, is to join the Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADM) as its new chief executive. Wall, the former chief executive of Virgin Media's content division, will join the state-owned company from 1 September. ADM's business spans TV, press, radio and digital, including interests in daily newspaper The National and online music service Vevo. He has been regularly named as a potential candidate for senior UK media roles including ITV chief executive in recent years, but has not held a senior position in the industry since leaving Virgin Media in April 2009. In the interim he was called in to chair Harlequins rugby club – a role he also held 15 years ago – after the "Bloodgate" scandal over players' use of fake blood capsules to make substitutions . Wall is former Harlequins player. Wall previously held roles including chief operating officer at United Business Media, which owns 114 trade magazines including Property Week and Farmers Guardian. "Malcolm is a heavy hitter who we are delighted to have attracted to ADM," said Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, the company's chairman. "He brings a wealth of senior operational experience in advertising sales, broadcasting and content as well as distribution. He has worked globally within the print, research and news distribution sectors." ADM has investments including a stake in Vevo , the online music video service also partly owned by Universal Music and Sony Music, as well as National Geographic Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Classic FM. • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
