The fashion briefing

Look of the week Hailed as one of spring/summer 11’s most triumphant shows, the Jil Sander silhouette is set to be big. This skirt length picks up where the winter maxi left off. Note: this is the skirt for women who prefer trousers. Plus, styling with a plain, classic T-shirt looks fresh and modern. It’s not just a catwalk trend: Gap will have something similar soon, while A-listers, Kate Bosworth and Drew Barrymore have both already worn full-length looks from the collection. Well, this Globetrotter tote makes even The Briefing emotional. Taken from the new 1897 Leather Series, which also includes a briefcase, shopper and weekend holdall, this is the first time in 113 years that the brand has produced items in soft leather. Heaven. £425, 020 7529 5950 Photograph: Martin Eidemak Photograph: Martin Eidemak Coral alert It wouldn’t be a new season without a new hue to obsess over. This month, after lengthy analysis and brow furrowing, it’s been decided it’s all about coral. As demonstrated here by Reiss, it’s a shade that works well with last season’s camel. It also gives off a springy glow. Fashion – so not rocket science this week. Therefore; enter the snake. Outgoing Paris Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld pre-empted this comeback last year claiming “snake is better on older women than leopard”. Anyways, you’ll find plenty of snake-print clothing coming to the high street, though for now, start with a shoe like this classic court from Kurt Geiger. £160, kurtgeiger.com Photograph: Kurt Geiger Photograph: Kurt Geiger The fashion diet moment It’s January, so you don’t eat the food, no, you wear it. This hotdog ‘n’ chips T-shirt from the latest Ashish collection for Topshop, arriving on the rails this week, is a case in point. Said collaboration has also produced a banana-split tee and a fried-breakfast sweat-top. Obvs if you’re looking for a healthier food-fashion option, there is the forthcoming banana Prada earrings or Stella McCartney’s citrus prints.
