OFFER EXPIRED Academy of Ancient Music: Book to hear early Italian baroque music and buy your second ticket for half price
Composing in Venice in the early 1600s, Claudio Monteverdi led a musical revolution which placed a new and astonishing emphasis on the voice, exploring its musical and dramatic possibilities alongside a range of contemporaries; their music is little heard today. Making his debut with the Academy of Ancient Music , director Jonathan Cohen explores this fresh, passionate repertoire with soloists Anna Prohaska, James Gilchrist and Benjamin Hulett. The concert features cantatas by Monteverdi , and his contemporary Cavalli, interspersed with inventive instrumental works, and culminating with Monteverdi's fiery cantata Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, a tragic and moving tale of mistaken identity and thwarted love.
